Privacy and Security are two main things that will always come in everyone’s mind, when they are thinking about internet. For example, if any one wants to perform certain online payment in a website, they will think, whether the website is safer to commit the transaction, safer from phishing and will it secure their data and prevent third-party usage and many more factors.
This will be same in case of email accounts. When you were creating an email account, then you should keep in mind the above given statements. In this post, I have described some tips that provides different ways to know whether your Gmail account has been accessed by somebody else (or hacked) without your permission.
Thanks to Google, Gmail has many in-built features which let you to know whether your account has been accessed or not.
Simply follow these tips for maintaining privacy of your Gmail account:
- Suspicious Activity Monitoring: Gmail provides an excellent feature that provides you a log of information, details login activities of your Gmail account. Suppose, if anyone accessed your account without proper authorization, automatically Google will provide information about the suspicious login. If anyone accessed from any different location, then you will be notified to you.
- Last Activity of your Account: This one provides you the list of account activities of your account. Using this detailed information, you can view the exact time and IP address of your login attempts. If you weren’t logged into your account with that IP address, then you can trace the IP address for more information about the unknown user. Suppose, if you were noticing any unwanted IP address from other countries, you can block those IP addresses by contacting Google. “Details” can be found near the “Last Account Activity” gives you all details about the different locations, login time and IP address.
- Log Out from all Sessions: Have you forget to log out your account after using the Google Accounts in public computers like internet café? If you were saying yes to those questions, then Google provides you an excellent opportunity for logging out your account from those accounts. By clicking SIGN OUT ALL OTHER SESSIONS, you can easily sign out your account from those computers successfully.
Make sure your account has been used securely and preserve your privacy from other persons online. It would be better to use Google’s 2-step verification/authentication process to login to your Gmail account anywhere, on any devices. In this process, Google will send a code in an SMS to your phone number and you should enter the code to get logged into your account. Learn more about the 2-way authentication process here.
