Being hacked, Yahoo’s advertiser server was reportedly delivered malware to the end-user computers, when the users clicked on the advertisements showed in Yahoo’s web pages.
The report came from Fox-IT, a cyber defense and security firm, which revealed that thousands of users (estimating 27,000 users) were affected per hour by the vulnerability. The malicious software delivered by the ads said to be disrupted the computers via “Magnitude” exploit kit and gain access to the private information on end-users’ computers. It also reported that the malware attack could have been started on Decmber 30th.
Yahoo also confirmed about the attack and released a statement that it’s aware of the security issue and subsequently blocked the malware infection. Yahoo’s spokeswoman said,
“At Yahoo, we take the safety and privacy of our users seriously. We recently identified an ad designed to spread malware to some of our users. We immediately removed it and will continue to monitor and block any ads being used for this activity,”
It’s also estimated that Romania, U.K, Italy, Spain and France were the most affected countries with the malware-running advertisement. Stay tuned, let us check whether we get some additional numbers from Yahoo officials.
