Fon, a Spanish based firm launches its community Wi-Fi system in U.S., which creates a shared Wi-Fi network that can be accessed by any Fon member for free.
Currently, the company has started selling it’s router, Fonera for $59 at Amazon and Fon Store which can be used a Wi-Fi hotspot for your use as well as the certain portion of the bandwidth can be used by any Fon member. Similarly, you can also get access to any other Fon member’s Wi-Fi internet for free. The company says that it already has 12 million hotspots globally.
The Fonera router can also use as a Wi-Fi extender device to boost low signals to spread more in your backyard. Another major feature is, it can also allow your Facebook friends who comes near your Wi-Fi range to access your internet. Don’t worry, they should be a Fon member first. However, members other than your FB friends can also access but wit certain limit and if they want more internet, then they should insert your password. The new Fonera device will be available in market from early November 2013.
