Two questions readers reasonably ask about any publication like ours are whether a machine wrote what they are reading, and whether someone is being paid to say it. This page answers both. It applies to every article on the site.
Financial interests
The Next Digit or its publisher may have financial interests in some of the tools, products or services mentioned on this site. That can include business relationships with the companies behind them. Our assessments are made independently of those interests: a tool is included because it is relevant to the reader, and it is described with its limits as well as its strengths. If a link on this site is paid for, it is marked as sponsored.
How we use AI
Our editors use AI tools in the way a careful editor uses any research tool: to help gather documentation, compare sources, spot inconsistencies, catch typing mistakes and tidy language. The ideas, structure, judgments and recommendations in every article are the editors’ own, and every factual claim is checked against its original source rather than against an AI tool’s summary of it. AI tools make confident mistakes, so nothing an AI tool produces is published on its word alone.
Some images on this site, including article illustrations, are created with AI image tools. Images are illustrative and are not photographs of the products discussed.
