Apple is reportedly preparing to launch iPad Air 2 and refreshed version of iPad mini with Retina display with latest A8 processor and TouchID fingerprint scanner, according to the source close to the company’s plans as well as the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities.
In preparation for the new iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 with Retina display, the current models will see a price drop over the next few months. Meanwhile, the strong rumors also suggests that the Cupertino-based company will launch a large screen (12.9-inch) iPad Pro tablet too, may be the launch date could be delayed.
Our sources close to the company revealed that there would be 2 iPads on the launch day, which confirms the ongoing rumors of iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. But some tech blogs reported that Apple iPad Pro will not see the launch date in 2014. Further supporting these rumors, researcher Ming-Chi Kuo released a statement which says the following:
We think the upgraded iPad Air will be launched earlier in 2014 than the iPad Air was in 2013. The biggest changes will be A8 processor, Touch ID (fingerprint recognition), and main camera resolution of 8MP.
…We previously thought Apple would not release a new version of the iPad mini this year, but we now think Apple will launch an upgraded version with same form factor, A8 processor and Touch ID (fingerprint recognition) to boost shipments of iPad mini with Retina display.
Alleged iPad Air 2 tablet will be reportedly powered by latest Apple A8 mobile processor with dedicated camera sensor for the 8-megapixel primary camera and TouchID sensor. Other two models will also get these new hardware features, while the iPad Pro will be loaded with Retina display, A8 CPU, Office suit and much more productivity and entertainment features.
Though Apple iPad sales number is declining since last holiday season, analyst predicted that the company could sell as high as 73.5 million iPads (all models together) in 2014.
All eyes are pointing towards Apple’s WWDC event to be held on June 2-6 at San Francisco, where company could reveal its upcoming devices. We don’t have strong rumors about the iPad’s release at WWDC 2014, but you could see the iPhone 6 and A8 processor, or may be, just the preview of next-gen iOS mobile operating system.
