It wouldn’t be surprising, if all the Laptop manufacturers bring with a universal charger, that could support every branded laptops in next year, as the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is planning with a proposal to standardize the laptop chargers.
IEC is trying to push the proposal for mandating the universal charger for supplying power to all notebook models in order to reduce the e-waste. If it successfully convince all the manufacturers, then there will be less e-wastes by the ways of used chargers and it could be used on any other laptops, which manufactured after the standardization.
This is not the first time, as the European Union also implied the similar standardization for smartphones across manufacturers with universal charger in September.
IEC General Secretary and CEO Frans Vreeswijk said,
“A single power supply covering a wide range of notebook computers is the next step in lowering e-waste and its impact on our planet.”
Th organization also said that the universal standardization will include the connector as well as the plug, which means, it might also prevent recalls of faulty chargers by the notebook manufacturers, like HP and Google’s recent recall of Chromebook 11’s overheating chargers.
