Nintendo and Illumination partner together to develop an animated Mario movie. The movie will rely on the iconic Mario video game franchise, including the plumbers Luigi and Mario. Illumination Entertainment and Nintendo had finally reached an agreement to develop the movie. On January 31, they have confirmed the news. Chris Meledandri and Shigeru Miyamoto will be the co-producers of the movie.
Miyamoto has created Mario and numerous other Nintendo properties. Meledandri owns Illumination Entertainment together with Universal Studios. The two companies had started discussing this collaboration in November 2017. Statistics indicate that the spinoffs and games have sold over 330 million units.
An animated Mario movie will soon appear
Illumination has developed “The Secret Life of Pets”, “Minions” and the “Despicable Me” series. Back in 2015, there were some discussions between Universal Parks and Resorts and Nintendo on developing attractions relying on Nintendo characters. Hence, Nintendo made a deal, developing the movie that revived the “Super Mario Bros”. Dennis Hopper, John Leguizamo, and Bob Hoskins were the stars of the movie. Unfortunately, this film was not as successful as producers expected it to be.
The new movie is still in its first stages of development, and it might take a few years until we will see it on cinema screens. In 2016, developers had released three video game movies. The list includes the New Regency’s live-action “Assassin’s Creed”, Legendary’s “Warcraft” and Sony’s “Angry Birds”. Furthermore, “Angry Birds” was so successful that a sequel would appear in 2019.
Illumination Entertainment and Nintendo will collaborate to develop an animated Mario movie. Fans may be excited, but they should know that the movie will take a few years before appearing in theaters. The movie will feature the two brothers, Luigi and Mario. Hopefully, the movie will be a success, just like the game.
