Luxury car manufacturer Bentley has just revealed their first SUV – Bentayga. Until now, the car manufacturer has only luxury sedans, coupes and convertibles, but now with the latest Bentayga, the company will wet its feet in the luxury SUV market.
With a top speed of 301 KM/hour, the company is claiming it as the fastest and most luxurious SUV in the world. Bentley’s Bentayga SUV will compete with Range Rovers as well as other upcoming SUVs from Rolls Royce and Lamborghini. Rolls Royce to launch Cullinan SUV while Lamborghini to unveil Urus soon.
The SUV is powered by a twin supercharged W12 engine. With 600bhp and 663lb ft of torque it can rocket to 62mph in only 4.1 seconds and reach 300kmh, despite its 2.4 tonne weight. The new engine can also switch between direct and normal fuel injection mode, making the car more efficient and smooth. The new engine also comes with cylinder-on-demand technology which will allow the car to run on only six cylinders out of 12 saving fuel.
Even with all the new technology, Bentayga will be still be a fuel-thirsty car, averaging only 22.1mpg, while emitting 292g/km of CO2.
According to Bentley, the new car has been subjected to the most exhaustive development programme in the company’s history, ranging across five continents, and taking in over 400 laps of Germany’s challengine Nürburgring Nordschleife test track while engineer’s fine-tuned the car’s chassis.
The Bentayga will make its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Sales will commence next year. Prices are yet to be confirmed but are expected to start at around $200,000. The SUV will be available with four or five seats. A seven-seat option in the car is also in the works with diesel and plug-in hybrid versions.
