Samsung leads the smartphone market in third quarter of 2013, where the sector has continued its growth, this time 39% year on year by selling whopping 258 million smartphones, according to the data revealed by IDC and Juniper Research. And in total mobile phone market (feature phones, smartphones and tablets together) companies shipped 467.9 million units in 3rd quarter, jumped 5.7% year on year.
In the total smartphone shipping, Samsung is in first place with 31.4 percent of its devices and Apple is in second place with 13 percent of share. Both the companies are expected to continue the dominance over the market in holiday seasons with their new lineups to lure in consumers.
Apart from these companies, Huawei, LG and Lenovo maintained the share of 4.6-4.8 percent of its devices and the other total undefined category has remaining 41.3 percent of the share. Although Nokia has sold more than 8.8 million smartphones in Q3 2013, still its in the “undefined category“. But, the Nokia might make a comeback in fourth quarter as the new smartphones released few days back in Nokia World, Abu Dhabi and even the price cut on smartphones might also help them to recover a bit and it can overtake current players in 3 to 5 positions.
Samsung itself shipped a whopping 81.2 million smartphones, up 40% yoy and further tightened its leading position. Apple also jumped 26% yoy by shipping 33.8 million iPhones but it lost some percentage of market share from 14.4 percent to 13.1 percent yoy.
