Apple unveiled iPad Air and Retina iPad Mini

As we expected, Apple brought in iPad Mini’s design into the larger tablet by making it thinner and lighter – named it iPad Air instead of traditional numbered name – iPad 5. Along with the iPad Air, the company also introduced the upgraded iPad Mini with Retina Display.

There are many smaller improvements in hardware of both the new iPads with Retina Display released at an event held in California, US on Tuesday. The company also released improved MacBook Pro laptops as well as OS X Mavericks as a free operating system.

By learning from the mistake made by releasing namesake-cheap iPhone 5c smartphone for the first time, Apple didn’t want to move into the non-premium tablets market.

Apple said that the 9.7-inch iPad Air is 28% lighter, 20% thinner and has 43% smaller bezels than its predecessor – iPad 4, which is now stopped by the company and the curiosity is Apple still selling the earlier version of the iPads (retained 2 years old iPad 2). Apple claimed that the iPad Air is the thinnest full-sized tablet in the world as it weighs just 1 pound and with 7.5mm thickness. The tablet comes with the same 64-bit A7 processor as well as M7 motion co-processor for camera, which were first introduced in latest iPhone 5s. The opening of files and graphics performance is said to be twice as fast as previous iPad 4 model, while retaining the same 10-hours battery performance.

Although analysts and experts expected an 8-megapixel camera, the company introduced a 5-megapixel iSight camera in rear with 1.2-megapixel HD front camera for Facetime with backside illumination sensors for low-light capturing. Operating system is iOS 7 with redesigned search, notifications and control centre, which has got mixed response from iPhone users.
