Uber is making some rapid progress in its field as the reports suggest that the first self-driving Uber car has been spotted in Pittsburgh. Uber is certainly looking forward to make a statement as the ride sharing company has not a considerable relaxed past. But that is probably best if left to talk about some other day.
According to the reports, a car was seen on the streets of Pittsburgh marked with the words ‘Uber Advanced Technologies Center’. Rumors were already up as some people had been talking about self driving cars from Uber to be introduced in the near future.
Recalling events of the past, Uber struck a deal with the Carnegie Mellon Scientists in the year 2014 with the aim to develop taxis that could fetch and drop passengers from pick up points to destinations. As it seems from the reports, Uber and the scientists must have made considerable advancements in this regards and that must be the reason why Uber’s self driving taxi is already on the streets for testing.
It can be assumed that the car that has been seen on the streets of Pittsburgh is a prototype of the company’s self driving taxi. An Uber spokesperson has stated that the car was meagerly an effort of further research. The data collected will be in fact used for the purpose of the mapping the roads and safety systems.
On the other hand, Uber’s CEO Travis Kalanick has stated that the inclusion of self driving cars from Uber will in turn help in bringing more cars into the market allowing the company to provide better and cheaper rates for the users. There is no doubt about the fact that Uber has had some competition in the past and the ride sharing company has come through it with flying colors.
