Tesla Motors Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk carries a brand with himself and that is of a company that makes exquisite cars. But Thursday saw the brand venture into another dimension of business, which is although not related to cars by any means, but can certainly be related to the diverse range of intentions that Mr. Musk holds. It was this Thursday that the CEO of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk announced Tesla Powerwall, a home battery that can be used by the individuals to store solar energy from their solar panels much more effectively.
According to the reports, the car making giant is ready to provide people with a battery that will essentially help them to avoid blackouts. The main idea behind the battery is to optimize the power consumption from the solar panels such that the power can be distributed across all points effectively and at the same time enough can be saved to last for a longer period of time.
The reports also suggest that the home owners will have the choice from a power capacity of either 7 kilowatt hours or 10 kilowatt hours, depending on their needs. The cost that will be incurred is expected to be about $3000 and $3500. This amount excludes the installation charge that might well be taken by the suppliers.
According to the company, the main idea behind the power is to allow the homes to have a better consumption of electricity via usage and savings. With the kind of rise that the world has seen in electric consumption in the past few years, there is no doubt that the general household needs such power batteries. Tesla has stated that the power batteries will increase the capacity for any household’s solar consumption, allowing a better service during the hour of need.
A battery named ‘Powerpack’ has also been made by the company for businesses as well as for big utility companies. It says that the firms can save money as the efficiency of power use can be maximized and would definitely help them in avoiding paying for power at peak times.
Tesla stated that the batteries were part of the work that was known mainly for electric cars and other products. In a statement, the company said that “Tesla is not just an automotive company, it’s an energy innovation company,” the company said in a statement. “Tesla Energy is a critical step in this mission to enable zero emission power generation.”
The batteries were introduced with various tie-ups including deals with retailers of US Green energy for selling the batteries. Also an announcement was made by Tesla that the business versions of batteries would be used by many companies including Target and Amazon.
