WhatsApp, which is a very popular method of instant messaging has hit the number of 800 million active users every month. Jan Koum, the CEO of the company stated these statistics last night. An update has just been rolled out by the company to the Android client for including an option of online conversation backup. Now, the users have the option of taking a backup of conversation to Google Drive.
V2.12.45 is the updated version of Android’s client and one can download it through the official website of the company. Earlier this option wasn’t available on Windows Phone and WhatsApp’s iPhone clients neither on the Play Store of Google.
Conversation backup is not exactly an earth-shattering feature, but plenty of people would surely be pleased with it. Once the latest update has been installed in chat settings, an option of taking a backup to Google Drive would be found.
After clicking that, one would be asked to associate a Gmail email for saving the conversation. However, it is to be pointed out that an offline conversation backup option is already there with WhatsApp. Last week, an update was pushed by WhatsApp to Android client for introducing graphical overhaul to the app. Finally, the Material Design Language was embraced by the app. Again, this is not a feature through which life problems would be solved, but this is definitely a feature that makes the app very popular.
As far as the voice calling feature of Whatsapp is concerned, it is yet to arrive on the Windows Phone and WhatsApp’s iOS clients. WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook last year for $19 billion. The number of members has hit 700 million now.
