Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has announced ‘Lucky Bag’ promotions will be offered to customers on January 2nd, 2015. The lucky bag or Fukubukuro is the Japanese New Year day tradition of offering bags filled with goodies and retailers sell them at discount.
Last year, consumers were happy with the ‘Lucky bags‘ offered by Apple as it included a discounted price for a range of items. Each of the bags priced at $340 (36,000 yen) is different and contain devices and accessories. Customers can either receive an iPad, Mac Mini, iPod or MacBook if they are lucky and they are non-returnable.
According to customers, every bag is likely to include an Apple device which makes it an attractive deal. With the release of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, there are expected to be more customers for the ‘Lucky Bags’. However, Apple might still end up offering the iPhone 5s or 5c and iPod Touch. Vouchers for buying Apple devices like Apple Watch are also expected.
Lucky customers might end up with a $99 Incase backpack and Mophie juice pack that are customized to match the bags or headsets and powerbanks. The promotion will be made available at Apple retail stores and customers will have to queue up early for the bags. Only one Lucky Bag allows for a customer while the promotion will be available only on Jan. 2, 2015.
Apart from the Lucky Bag promotion, Apple retail stores in Japan are offering six to eight percent discount on devices as a part of New Year celebrations. Apple might also end up offering completely new items like iTunes gift cards or discount vouchers for future purchases. The company will make sure that each customer is not disappointed with the goodies they receive as it may either include a premium Apple device or a rare accessory in case the bag includes a hardware like iPod Shuffle.[ Source ]
