Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) has secretly removed its app from the Google Play store which means it will not be available through the means of search inside Google Play. The direct link of the application is still live though. There is another application by the company called Amazon Shopping that looks similar to the first application, but it is also not available on the Play Store.
Amazon made the app available to the limited users before in order to avail them the facility to download games and applications through the Play Store. Since Amazon had its own app store, Google was not able to receive greater income from downloads. Amazon cited the abrupt change of rules by Google as the reason for removing its app from the Play Store of the search engine giant.
The blog post of Amazon reads, “We launched a new Amazon App for Android Phones in September 9 that provides an award-winning mobile shopping experience, enables customers to discover and purchase an Amazon’s entire digital catalog, and provides customers access to the Prime Instant Video player and unlimited streaming of over 40,000 movies and TV episodes. Google subsequently changed their Developer Distribution Agreement on September 25. As a result, we removed the app from Google Play and published the Amazon Shopping app.”
The Amazon app store can easily be accessed for download on the android phones. However, it will not be able to show up with the help of search option. In the worst scenario, you have the immediate download link for the same that you can follow and get the application on your device.
The company has also released a very interesting app called, “Amazon Shopping” to its Google Play Store. This app is available on Google Play but without an access to the application library. In order to check out the latest app by Amazon, you will need to visit its official website and download it from there.
