Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus made a huge impact in the minds of the Apple fans and now, it is a turn for the upcoming Apple Watch. Apple Watch expected to hit the market in the early 2015 and analyst already started to predict the sales of the first year.
The gadget was revealed in September with a teaser and officials hinted at an early 2015 launch. The single chip going inside the watch is based on a brand new technology by Apple. Contrary to other devices it is not A-series chip that will be used in Apple Watch, but an advanced system-in-package (SiP) technology. The chip is called S1 and all the technology is reduced to a size of a resin, so that it comes easily in a small wristwatch, that has multiple features.
Morgan Stanley, a new analyst reported that Apple will approximately sell around 30 million Apple Watch in its first year. Stanley argues that more than 10% of the iPhone users will go for iPhone-maker’s Watch and this smartwatch will be a massive one for Apple in the upcoming year.
This prediction is the exact opposite of what Morgan Stanley’s analyst Katy Huberty predicted earlier in June 2014. Huberty had produced some intriguing stats to the fans. According to this renowned financial analyst, around 60 million Apple Watch units could be shipped in a matter of 12 months. There was a report of Apple’s ordering of 40 million S1 chips from its chipmakers.
Morgan Stanley said,
“Our 30M unit estimate implies 10 percent penetration into Apple’s 315 million into Apple’s iPhone 5 or newer installed base exiting 2014, which is lower than the iPad penetration of 14 percent in its first year, but higher than the iPhone at 7 percent,” “However, the iPhone was constrained by limited carrier distribution and a more expensive two-year service contract.”
Stanley mentioned that Wall Street predicts the first year sale on iPhone and iPad as 9 million and 5 million units, before the launch respectively. But, Apple ended in selling more than 12 million iPhones and 15 million iPad in the first year.
A survey has been conducted over the sales of Apple Watch and as a result, they found people are more interested in Apple Watch rather than buying wearable from Nike, Google and other competitors.
Regarding the Apple Watch release date, so far, we have a leaked memo from Angela Ahrendts (Apple Retail SVP) that suggest that the smartwatch to be released only after the Christmas season. That means the device will be in the market only in 2015.
