Tesla CEO and the founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk has stated on Friday that Artificial Intelligence will prove to be the greatest threat to the humans. Musk gave a speech at MIT Aeronautics and Astronautics department’s Centennial Symposium for an hour where he stressed on the fact that the artificial intelligence would take us nowhere.
Although Elon Musk did not specify and detailed form of threat, but he seemed to be quite opinionated about the Artificial Intelligence subject. He stated in the speech, “With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon, in all those stories where there’s the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, it’s like yeah he’s sure he can control the demon. Didn’t work out.”
When it comes to artificial intelligence, the tasks are usually performed by computers rather than humans. For example, speech recognition and language translation are some of the elements of artificial intelligence. The tech companies around the world are extremely excited to employ artificial intelligence, but it has to be harnessed properly.
Companies like Google and Facebook have already started the quest to create a system that would work like the human brain does. Google had bought the DeepMind, a British artificial intelligence company in order to eliminate human tasks and assign them to the computer.
Elon Musk is, however wary of such a situation where artificial intelligence takes over the human work. This would end up in a disaster, as expressed by him. According to the audience who were sitting in the auditorium listening to his speech, Elon Musk was so agitated about the AI technology that he asked the next audience to repeat the question when he was asked about the AI technology. He said, “Sorry can you repeat the question, I was just thinking about the AI thing for a second.”
