Sony launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, a smaller version of the new Xperia Z3 during the IFA conference, held in Berlin.
The Xperia Z3 Compact carries the same specifications of the Z3 with a 2.5GHz Snapdragon quad-core processor and Adreno 330 GPU. Sony states that the Z3 compact is “uncompromised” in performance, though the phone does not have certain features of the Z3. The major difference is the screen-size of the Z3 Compact that features a 4.6-inch display and 1280×720 resolution when compared to Z3’s 5.2-inch 1920×1080 resolution display.
Kunimasa Suzuki, CEO of Sony Mobile said in a statement:
“At Sony Mobile, flagship now means offering choices to consumers of enjoying a large screen Xperia Z3 for more immersive entertainment or a more lighter Xperia Z3 Compact that doesn’t ask you to compromise on features.”
Though the Z3 and the Z3 Compact have 16GB internal memory, the Xperia Z3 has 3GB of RAM in comparison with Z3 Compact’s 2GB RAM. The Z3 Compact is equipped with a 20.7MP primary camera and 2.2MP secondary camera with 1080p recording. The only difference in the camera of Z3 is the added 4K support.
The Z3 Compact is powered by the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat and will come loaded with the pre-installed apps found on the Z3. Both the smartphones are water-proof and can connect to Sony PlayStation 4 using the Remote Play feature. A DualShock 4 controller can be used to play games on the smartphone, which is likely to attract PS4 users who already own a controller.
