In just a year after the launch, Google Chromecast has garnered over 400 million casts, has become the most popular streaming device on online stores giving tough competition to Roku and Apple TV and Amazon.
Google Chromecast is available in over 30,000 stores worldwide and is available on the Google Play Store. Chrome cast was developed by Mario Queiroz can stream content from Chrome browser to TV and even from Android phones. More than 6,000 developers have developed more than 10,000 apps for Chromecast and includes popular apps like NetFlix, YouTube, Vevo, Hulu and many more.
Several improvements are expected to be seen in the future as Chromecast head mentioned the”cross-casting” ability between two different network platforms. Plans to develop “Chromecast Backdrop,” a customizable home screen is also in the pipeline. Chromecast offered Netflix access for three months during the time of its launch and has offered $30 Google Play Music All Access subscription for free as part of Chromecast’s first birthday.
Though Google has not revealed the exact number of units sold, the device is competing with rivals like Amazon, Roku and Apple TV and remains as the No.1 bestseller on Amazon. Queiroz also explained the several ways in which a Chromecast can be enjoyed. From playing music from Google Play Music, creating playlists from YouTube and burning calories with the help of Daily Burn app. The plug-and-play device costing at $35 has most of the apps on the Chrome web browser and users can redeem features in exchange of loyalty to trending apps.
