Nowadays, the power failures are getting worse and current inverters are not so smaller as what the current generation “smart” devices has become. In order to make the inverter device simple and effective, Google has announced a little box challenge together with IEEE. The inverter is used to convert the direct current to the electricity, but the saddest part of the inverter is its size.
Since the working principle of inverter is to convert the direct current to the alternating current, the size of the device will be similar to cooler box. This makes Google and IEEE to offer 1 million dollars for who invent a smaller sized inventor.
“The problem is household inverters are too big — roughly the size of a picnic cooler. Making them smaller would enable more solar-powered homes, more efficient distributed electrical grids, and could help bring electricity to the most remote parts of the planet,”
Google wants to shrink down the volume of the inverter into the size of the tablet or laptop. Whether it might be an electric inverter or solar device, Google wants the size of inverter similar to that of a laptop.
More technically, Google and IEEE were looking for an inverter device that should produce a kWh of energy and in the meanwhile, it should produce 50W of power density per cubic inch. For whom who changes the future of electricity, Google and IEEE offers a prize money worth 1 million dollars.
Inventing a smaller sized inverter will help the other people to create a low-cost microgrids and also it may also power-up your entire home from your car battery itself.
