Amazon’s own smartphone has arrived, not to the market yet, but to the internet via leaked photo of the alleged smartphone, which shows that the company has taken some sort of design cues from Apple iPhone.
The photo of Amazon’s smartphone was first revealed by BGR today. In mid-April, Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon had demonstrated some prototype versions of the smartphones to developers in Seattle and San Francisco over the course of the past few weeks. Later, we’ve reported about the handset’s glass-free 3D user interface with a leaked photo of the smartphone, but it was covered by a protective case covering the smartphone, may be, to prevent unauthorized access to the physical design of the smartphone.
According to rumors, Amazon will be launching its smartphone (Kindle Fire Phone?) in July 2014 and shipping could begin by September 2014. However, when we have a close look at the rendered image of the alleged smartphone, we could easily guess that the design of the phone looks like a mashup of iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s, by the way its speakers, charging port, thick bezel and home button designed and placed in the frame.
Obviously, the final product will come with a slightly different design and it might not look like an iPhone. Amazon smartphone’s size, thickness and unique gesture setup with 3D sensor+camera will distinguish the device from any other available handsets in the market.
Meanwhile, Amazon is competing head to head with Apple in its homeland with 2 devices – Kindle Fire series of tablets against Apple iPad and Amazon Fire TV against Apple TV. The latter one is a video streaming set-top box with additional remote controller, being sold for $99.
As we reported last year, Amazon will be launching 2 or more devices in third quarter of 2014. One of them will be a high-end smartphone and another one is an affordable handset with decent price and specs sheet. The first-to-release device will be powered by latest Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, forked version of Android OS, 4.7-inch display (Will that be FireOS found in Kindle Fire HDX?), 720p HD display screen, 13MP rear camera and unknown front camera.
Amazon is also reportedly planning to launch a unique wireless data plan called as “Amazon Prime Data,” and that could also help the company to break the market with a bang. What is your opinion?
