After teasing the possible launch with its invitation to “Kapture the Moment” media event at Singapore, Samsung has finally unveiled its new Galaxy K Zoom, aka Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom.
Again, Samsung tries to blur the line between smartphone and camera by introducing a more powerful 20.7 megapixel camera with the bigger lens similar to that of a point-and-shoot camera.
Like its predecessor Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, the South Korean smartphone-maker transformed its latest flagship to a hybrid device to feature a high-end Android smartphone and a powerful camera, which not only boasts a 20.7 megapixel backside illuminated CMOS sensor, but also has a 10x optical zoom, a xenon flash with an LED autofocus assist.
A special alarm feature called “Selfie Alarm” has been introduced to help take timed selfies along with auto focus functions, new camera filters and object tracking. The camera can shoot videos at 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution at 60 frames per second. The Galaxy K Zoom also comes with a 2 megapixel front shooter.
Regarding the smartphone’s specifications, the company has made some major changes to its specs sheet. Samsung reduced the display size to 4.8-inches with 1280 x 720 resolution from 5.1-inch with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution of Galaxy S5. The company also introduced its own Exynos 5 Hexa-core SoC with Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex A7 & dual-core 1.7 GHz Cortex A15 processor.
Mali-T624 GPU, 2GB of RAM (reduced from 3GB of RAM in Galaxy S5), 8GB internal storage space with expandable microSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.0, LTE, NFC, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and a 2,430mAh battery are other key specifications of the Galaxy K Zoom. The device will come with latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box.
Samsung continues its “Ultra Power Saving Mode” in this handset to help users to get long battery life, but gave up its fingerprint sensor that’s available in its predecessor.
Samsung has added a Studio app to allow users to easily edit their pictures and videos as well as a S Health Lite for personalized fitness and lifestyle coaching.
Samsung Gaaxy K Zoom is expected to get a global release date in May 2014, however, the company hasn’t revealed the price details yet. We have to wait for the launch date to get the exact price tag of the hybrid smartphone. Till then, go through the teaser video below.
