Trying to deliver more important news resources, Facebook is providing a brand new tool that will post real-time content related to the day’s news – FB Newswire.
On Thursday, the company has launched FB Newswire – a product of a partnership with News Corp-owned Storyful – with the intention to make it more convenient for journalists and newsrooms to find, share and embed newsworthy content from the popular social networking website in their work.
The feature is offered to anyone, but its potential customers is journalists and newsrooms, Facebook reported. The service will ensure that journalists receive verified as well as reliable news stories that they can trust.
FB Newswire is going to gather “newsworthy content” that Facebook users share publicly via their accounts, such as news like images and videos, along with status updates anywhere from users on the ground where news bulletin is breaking.
As reported by Andy Mitchell, director of news and global media partnerships at Facebook, the FB Newswire is a Facebook page of hand-selected and journalist-verified news stories from across Facebook’s platform.
“Journalists and media organisations have become an integral part of Facebook.”
Storyful’s technology and verification process, paired with Facebook’s user base, platform, and global reach, create an exciting news venture which we feel newsrooms globally will likely find important and valuable.
The most interesting part with FB Newswire is a fact that it could help journos to reach first-hand sources who would be updating their FB timelines and profiles with this information. Journos can also try to connect with them directly if they wish to get more information. And the sad part for now, there are no filtering of new categories such as Technology, Science, Sports and Politics. Journalists has to go through the timeline and pick up the suitable information shared on Facebook.
FB Newswire can be reached at facebook.com/FBNewswire and at Twitter account @FBNewswire, and will be updated in real-time with content related to top news stories. Will it be a helpful platform for Journalists? or the company just making its way to become the number one source for latest news?
