Surprisingly, Verizon has announced that it will roll out the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware update for its HTC DROID DNA smartphone that was launched in November 2012. (Update: New firmware is out now)
HTC’s executive director at product management, Mo Versi announced the news on his Tweet, where he always exclusively revealed the information related to the firmware updates. In November 2013, HTC USA had tweeted that the device will get the KitKat treat in Q1, but now begins rolling out in first month of Q2.
Mo Versi said tweeted the following:
DNA Owners! Appreciate your patience, we have technical approval for OS 4.4.2 + Sense 5.5. Expect OTA updates to start on 4/24. Thanks!
This is a good news for the Verizon DROID DNA owners as the update brings all KitKat features and HTC’s Sense UI on top of the operating system, which unfortunately, comes with some new bloatware too. The update will arrive OTA (Over The Air) on your device tomorrow, on Thursday, 24th April.
It’s better to keep watching the notification bar tomorrow, or you can also manually check for the update by going to settings > about device > software updates. It may take some time to receive the update notification on your screen, which happens with all OTA updates. Make sure you have a better Wi-Fi Internet and charge your battery to at least 70 percent.
Update: Verizon already started to roll out the update in 2 parts – an 18MB update first prepares the DROID DNA for the KitKat and then comes a whopping 618MB firmware package. As the Android 4.4 KitKat can work efficiently on low and medium-range phones, DROID DNA still has a good specs sheet. DROID DNA is the Verizon’s version of HTC Butterfly. With a 5-inch full HD Super LCD3 display, HTC DROID DNA launched with hardcore specs sheet, including a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, wireless charging, LTE support, 2,020mAh battery, 8MP rear camera and a 2.1MP front camera. The handset was launched with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS with HTC Sense 4 Plus user interface.
