It’s been over a year since the first Xperia Z had been launched by Sony and now we have the giant Sony Xperia Z2, which has all major power-packed features. Let’s see what Sony packed for you with its new phablet in a detailed review.
To the human of the 21st century, a phone is not just a device used for transmission. Well, this definition was erased and redefined way back but the present day ‘Phones’ are way beyond what we could think of just a few years back. Speaking of smart phones, I still remember the 1st generation smart phones that I used. At that point of time I was absolutely amazed at what I held in my Hands. But now, when I think of my device and the one that I had up till a couple of years back; is way beyond the imagination of a normal human being. Modern day phones are not just phones, they are all you need. And if you are talking of the something like Sony Xperia Z2, you should choose words carefully!
Before we actually go into the details of Xperia Z2, let us first be aware of what Sony has achieved with Z2. With this smartphone, Sony has just tried to cross all its levels of excellence, but has failed miserably. Sony has tried to ensure that nothing stays on the line of cruel criticism in this case, but has failed again. The list starts from the very processor to the display, the camera, etc, where you will be able to point out something or the other. Let me state the positives and negatives of Sony Xperia Z2.
Well, I will not call it one of the largest devices in the market. It weighs 163 gms actually, but when compared to the size, the weight itself is a huge flaw. When you will be holding Z2, you will not be able to feel it. The weight is spread all over and this makes it vulnerable to falls. So, Size – Negative.
The display that we have is much better than the ones of the past. Especially when compared to Z and Z1, the triluminious display with more than 16 million colors does add a bit of extravaganza to Z2. The Resolution is 1920 x 1080, which will supposedly make viewing experience better. So, display positive ever so slightly.
With 20 megapixels to its name, the Polaroid of Z2 does not actually do any justice. There are significant flaws and the prime is its susceptibility to extremely bright lights. A camera with flaws in light is not acceptable to me at least. For video recording the most annoying things is the noise that creeps in every now and then! Camera will stay at neutral as the snap can be great when taken in normal light.
Frankly speaking there is not a lot to speak of in this case. Nothing has changed. The layout is literally the same with no improvements. There is nothing that Sony has put in the software section of Z2. It seems like they just took it from Z1 and placed in on Z2. The points for Software will be negative. The fans of Xperia user interface will love it, anyways.
The powerful 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, Adreno 330 GPU along with 3GB of RAM made the device extremely responsive. I have tested some games with extreme graphics, such as Need for Speed Shift, Modern Combat 4 and FIFA 14, which runs very smoothly without any lags. Adreno 330 GPU works 20% faster than its predecessor, Adreno 320. When I tested the device with AnTuTu Benchmark app, it has got total points of 25,453, which is far ahead than the score of HTC One X, Galaxy S4 and lags behind Galaxy Note 3, which is above 35K. I will conclude the performance of Xperia Z2 as above average, but not the best. Battery life has been improved significantly since its launch of Xperia Z and Xperia Z1.
For me, the design and the aesthetics of Xperia Z2 is not appealing and it feels sluggish to hold the handset on your palm. Well, it seems Sony has looked more into making the device water-proof and dust-resistant, but the device has more bezel, which makes me feel not happy with the design part of the smartphone.
Te giant Sony Xperia Z2 will please the phablet lovers, but the device is structured poorly with more bezel. User Interface is not improved from its previous models and the smartphone doesn’t performs well although it comes with the high-end specifications. Battery life has seen improvement and the display screen is neat and durable. There are some issues while capturing 4K videos in camera, while all other camera features are extremely good. Good buy, but not the best.
Let me also state that it is not at all the worst phone in the Market. But the sad part is that it is not the best where it could have been the best. Still, Sony Xperia Z2 is better that Z and Z1 and if you are a Xperia Fan, you can surely go for it!
