Though Google hasn’t played very well with its Google TV platform, there comes a report that suggests that the search giant has its own plan to rebrand the service as ‘Android TV’ with the help of its popular Android platform.
The news came via The Verge, which reported that it has received some documents as proof for Google’s upcoming Android TV and its plans. According to one of the leaked documents,
“Android TV is Android, optimized for the living room consumption experience on a TV screen. Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform.”
Google is even in talks with some of the popular video streaming services to bring in their applications to its new platform. However, Android TV will not be any new innovation, as it resembles the same features that could be seen in current TV streaming services like Apple TV, Roku TV and recently released Amazon Fire TV.
Google has seen some hope of growth with its $35 Chromecast dongle and now moving towards a new platform, may be they could launch an Android TV box too. However, Roku TV begun its journey with Roku TV box, then it went on to release a Chromecast competitor, $49 Roku 3500R Streaming Stick with remote controller.
Google will be introducing “cards” type of user interface that found in LG’s WebOS TV platform. Android TV will also come with a remote controller with 4-way pad to scroll through TV screen options. It’s also reported that Google will introduce an optional gaming controller for Android TV. That means, Android TV is nothing different from the Amazon Fire TV.
According to the obtained screenshots posted on The Verge also shows that all popular Google services such as YouTube, Google Play, Play Movies, Hangouts along with other third-party services such as Hulu, Pandora and Netflix are already present within the platform.

Google unveiled its Google TV four years ago with the promise of TV and internet combination by partnering with some TV companies such as Sony, Logitech and Intel. But, the idea didn’t worked well for the company because of poor marketing, complex UI and small numbers of partners for integration of the platform.
Now with the success of Chromecast dongle in one hand, Google will place its Android TV in front of the consumers to acquire the entertainment space for some extent. Stay tuned for more updates on this story. Have your opinions in the comments field below.
