The fastest growing smartphone-maker Xiaomi of China launched its new affordable Android handset Hongmi 1s for ¥799 ($130), which will be available for pre-order on 20th February onwards.
The newly released smartphone is the successor to its last Xiaomi Hongmi handset, which had a 4.7-inch 720p display, 1.5GHz Mediatek MT6589T processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage space, 8MP primary camera, 1.3MP front camera and a 2,000mAh Li-Po battery.
The Xiaomi Hongmi 1s features similar specs sheet, except the following features: a 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor with Adreno 305 GPU, 8GB of internal storage space, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with MIUI V5 UI (Android 4.2 on its previous model) and a 1.6MP front camera.
The device also features a dual-SIM support (1GSM and 1 CDMA), Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and GPS+ GLONASS. With the physical dimensions of 137 x 69 x 9.9mm, the Hongmi 1s weighs 158 grams.
The price tag for the beefier specification of the Xiaomi’s handset is best in class and the device beats many popular affordable smartphones in pricing, including the Motorola Moto G. This new entry-level smartphone could contribute to the company’s expectation of shipping 40 million devices in 2014. The Chinese smartphone-maker is all set to crack the American market soon.
