As promised at the CES 2014 event earlier this month, Pebble announced to ship its second generation stainless steel variant of the smartwatch for $249 from late February onwards.
The steel version of the smartwatch now available in 2 designs – brushed steel and matte black. The company uses 3 types of shipping options such as USPS, Fedex and Fedex Overnight that delivers outside the United States too.
The $10 million round-funded Pebble’s first generation plastic smartwatch became the standard with the e-paper display for long life, which was also known for its 5-7 days battery life and waterproof design. First generation smartwatch is now selling at $150 with 5 different color options.
The new Steel models comes with a leather and a steel straps, while the display is being protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass with anti-fingerprint coating and boasts a tri-colored LED notification light.
Weighing 67% heavier than the original 38gms plastic model with 56gms weight, the smartwatch is compatible with Android and iOS handsets. The company has said that all the Pebble apps will be compatible with the new Steel smartwatch and users will be having the option to choose from many watch face designs.
