By the end of Q4 2013, Samsung is reportedly shipped 40 million tablets in this year, with the help of new Galaxy Tab 10.1 2014 Edition and the holiday promotions.
The news broke out by FNN News of South Korea, where it said that the source told them that the company has “sold” 40 million tablets in 2013. We know, Samsung always terms “shipped” and the news becomes “sold”. There is a difference between sold and shipped, where the first one is sold to consumers and the latter one can be still lying on the store shelves.
It said that Samsung sold 9.1 million, 8.4 million, 10.5 million and more than 12 million tablets in Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 2013, respectively. This means, the company has got tremendous growth in 2013 compared to the sales number of 2012 and 2011, which were only 16.6 million and 6 million, respectively. In the year 2010, Samsung only managed to sell 1.5 million tablets.
Although, Samsung leads the smartphone market, Apple still leads the tablet market with their iOS-running iPads. Apple has sold 19.5 million, 14.6 million and 14.1 million iPads in Q1, Q2 and Q3 2013, respectively. The fourth-quarter iPad sales could be as much as 25 million, because of the release of iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display.[source (Korean)]
