HP is reportedly planning on releasing at least two smartphones in next few days, by the end of 2013 and the devices could be a 6-inch and a 7-inch “phablet” to enter the mobile market again with the insertion of Android, not webOS.
HP seems to be in a comeback to the mobile world, where it ended its journey in 2011 and in 2 months, it open sourced its webOS software. In 2010, it had acquired Palm for $1.2 billion in order to keep up with the competition of Apple, Samsung and then-Nokia.
However, in September 2012, Meg Whitman, Hewlett-Packard’s CEO told Fox Business that it’s working on smartphones, but we didn’t expected that it took these long to bring it to the market. But, there are few Android tablets from the company is already in the market.
In last July, there were some rumors and speculations of HP Android smartphones but the company’s representative denied and said that “the photo is a fabrication and is not a photo of anything HP has in the works. Someone is making stuff up.”
Moreover, the 2 new HP Android Phablets will be released in emerging markets such as China, Indonesia, India and Philippines with very affordable price tag of around $250-$300 without any contracts. However, only 7 days left to end this year – stay tuned.
