The upcoming video game Assassin’s Creed: Origins is going to offer players something that no other game has done before. Its creators will introduce an educational mode that is meant to teach players about the history of Ancient Egypt. Ubisoft announced and even showed a bit of this new mode during a press event from earlier this month, in San Francisco.
Its official name is Discovery Tour by Assassin’s Creed: Ancient Egypt and will present valuable and historically-accurate information as it guides players through Ptolemaic Egypt. Fans of the video game series should know that it has become a tradition to use real locations and historical events as base for the war between the Assassins Brotherhood and The Knights Templar. Some examples of this are the Crusades, the Renaissance, or even the American Revolution or Victorian England.
A mode that will teach you about history
According to Jean Guesdon, the Creative Director for Origins, the idea came from the enormous positive feedback that the studio has received for its historically-accurate events and environments. He explained that teachers have been using these games in class to teach children about various events from history. So, the next question they asked themselves was “how to take this to the next level?”
So, the idea about the Discovery Tour became reality. This basically offers a guided tour of all the locations in the game. All while explaining various events, background for characters or interesting facts about Egypt. Guesdon also explained that this mode could also act as a stand-alone project for educational purposes. Specialists and historians have been helping the developers for years in creating real and historically-accurate worlds. Therefore, for the Discovery Tour, Ubisoft also collaborated with museums to gather material to better explain that fascinating period of time.

Moreover, Guesdon said at the same event that everything you may want to know about regarding Ancient Egypt is in there. From mummification, Cleopatra or the Great Pyramids to Alexandria or any other important historical place, figure or event. The player will be able to choose one character and guide it through this tour. There will be stations where the character will stop and have a certain historical fact explained to them.
Ubisoft it’s planning to launch this mode in early 2018. So, it will not come with the video game Assassin’s Creed: Origins.
