Sonic Mania, a Trip Down Memory Lane

About 25 years ago, there were two major systems that kids would exchange between each other in order to have access to mare games. Those were the NES or SNES and the Genesis. With them, there were some amazing games which got kids hooked. One of those was Sonic The Hedgehog, which came out in 1991. Actually, the very first series starring the faster-than-lightning hedgehog were amazing. However, as systems and trends changed, the games changed too. Unfortunately, not for the best. They started being weird and then they became horrible, at least for the fans of the old games. So, last year, SEGA decided that it was time to go back in time and created a prototype which now bears the name Sonic Mania.

A trip down memory lane

The main question everybody asks now is: is Sonic Mania any good? It is. The developers struggled to recreate the look and feel of the old ones. Moreover, the music and the controls are the same from 25 years ago. The main idea that this gamer evolves around is that Sonic, Tails and Knuckles get sent back in time by Dr. Robotnik. The team now has to stop history from changing for good. Sonic Mania has 12 levels and players will be able to play as all three heroes. So, if you played even a bit of the old games, the controls and everything else will be piece of cake.

There are indeed some new levels which will test the players’ abilities. For example, the developers have made some of them longer and more challenging. Also, a series of new levels will test even the most experienced player. The main achievement of the developers is that they succeeded in making a vintage-style game while also adding new elements to it. So, the game is not boring at all.

New, but also nostalgic

As for the graphics, they are vintage, but feel like new. There is something about the colors that feels vibrant and alive. The soundtrack is maybe one of the best parts of the game. It really makes the player feel like they are inside one of those old games. All in all, Sonic Mania is a very good game which fans of all ages should enjoy. It has its problems, but no game is ever perfect. However, when it’s so much fun, it’s all worth it in the end,
