Middle-earth: Shadow of War Microtransactions Detailed
Players can choose to purchase “Loot Chests, War Chests, XP Boosts, and Bundles” through the market. In turn, this should help them strengthen their army. The announcement does, however, draw attention to the fact that players will need a working internet connection to access and use the market.
As expected XP Boosts are consumables which can be used to help the users level up Talion at a faster pace. Loot Chests will contain Gear, and they might also come with XP Boosts. The Gear will include both armor and weapons of varying rarity. Equipping Talion with them will enhance the character’s abilities, as will upgrading such weapons.
War Chests will come with Orc followers of varying rarity. These should help the player forge a strong army. Such chests might also contain Training Orders, which help level up and customize these Orc followers.
Bundle packs will come with a mix of Loot Chests, War Chests, and Bundles, and are held as bringing the best boost at a “great value”.
The microtransactions will require either Mirian or Gold. Mirian is “a type of in-game currency”, one which can be acquired or earned in various ways. For example, users can gain it by destroying Gear or defeating Treasure Orcs. They can also find Mirian stashes throughout the game or destroy Orc followers for Gear.
Gold can be purchased, or awarded for participating in community challenges or at specific milestones in small amounts.
“Everything a player can buy with Gold can also be earned in the game over time for free, but Gold gives players the option to acquire these items faster. No Gold purchases are necessary to enjoy the complete game experience,” states Monolith.
Both Mirian and Gold can be gathered through various methods and will have more than one utility.
