Mark Zuckerberg has long been planning to start a revolution and completely transform Facebook. So, during this week’s F8 conference, he revealed more details about this ambitious 10-year plan. He first revealed it last year and, according to it, Facebook wants to integrate augmented and virtual reality, along with artificial intelligence, into real, palpable parts of the business over the following 10 years.
A very ambitious plan
At the F8 conference, Mark Zuckerberg also revealed the new Camera Effects platform. This is a way in which he can accelerate the introduction of augmented reality into the Facebook business. This platform is actually a tool which will help any developer build augmented reality apps. Then, people will be able to access those apps from Facebook’s camera. This could prove to be one of the biggest steps forward for Facebook.
However, this does not mean that the company will be giving up on the fight against its biggest opponents like Apple or Google. On the contrary, Facebook wants to win the battle once and for all and even if this ambitious plan will take about a decade to complete, Zuckerberg is eager to see it play out. He also wants to create a universe in which apps will no longer on marketplaces for the smartphones. According to a report, one of Zuckerberg’s biggest disappointments is that Facebook never built its own smartphone operating system, from scratch. Also, Zuckerberg’s plans might mean that the end of smartphones is near and in the future, we will have some other, more bizarre devices to play with.
The future is coming
Mark Zuckerberg also presented another interesting part of Facebook’s augmented reality plan. He revealed a pair of glasses which, at a first glance might not look like much. However, they can transform your living room into a virtual TV screen. And you will not even have to buy a real TV. According to Zuckerberg, with the technology today and future one, many of the real things we have will no longer have to be real. Virtual and augmented reality can completely replace them, thus providing us with more space in our homes for other activities. All in all, one thing is certain: Mark Zuckerberg has some huge plans. If they will succeed, we might just witness the future, one way or another.
