Those players who like the seventh installment of the Resident Evil franchise will be able to enjoy it more. They will take control of a very familiar face thanks to a new episode called “Not A Hero”. Its main protagonist is going to be Chris Redfield, one of the original playable characters from the very first resident Evil game. The new DLC is going to be free for everyone and will go live this spring, according to Capcom. Yesterday the company confirmed the rumors through a Twitter message.

Those fans of the Resident Evil saga already know that Chris Redfield actually appears in the latest installment. Nobody knows what his purpose or his story was, but the player receives some help in the form of a special gun from Chris. This happens during the final boss battle. He tells the players that he is “Redfield” and all clues point towards him collaborating with the infamous Umbrella Corporation which has been the main antagonist of the entire series, those who silently run everything from the shadows.
The main issue which many fans pointed out was that Chris did not look at all like the Chris everyone knows for twenty years. He appears slimmer, even younger in a way and does not feel like the character we met in Resident Evil 5 and 6. Even his face is not similar. It is either a huge character design change from Capcom or there is something more and this character is supposed to not look like Chris. Fans have begun speculating but for now, nothing is certain about him.
As for the story of the new free DLC for Resident Evil 7, Capcom says that it will be a rather short one. It will follow Chris Redfield as he unveils a different take on Ethan’s nightmare sequence from the main game. In the teaser, Capcom also asked fans what or who do they think Chris is chasing this time. The company also released a few screenshots from the game which mainly focus in Chris’ appearance than the story. This is way fans are thinking that there might be something Capcom hid and wants the players to find out. Especially concerning his physical appearance. Also, rumor has it that Chris’ mysterious target might be Lucas Baker, the most important member of the Baker family who is still alive at the end of the game.
Resident Evil 7 was a successful game, even if it went into another direction than its predecessors. Some even compared it with the Silent Hill series. However, players complained about the fact that the PC version of the game did not have the FOV slider and the aspect ratio support. The company explained the reasoning behind that. Frankly, bugs and texture issues started to appear when they tried to introduce the slider. Also, they did not want players to see too much of the environment around them because it would have decreased the level of tension. And in a horror game, tension is everything.
