AMD recently unveiled two new affordable cards – Radeon RX 470 and RX 460. The two graphics cards were expected for a while now but up until this moment the company has remained quiet in regards to their specifications. Now that it has been revealed what they can do, let’s take a look at the new Radeon 400 series members.
As you well guess, the most powerful of the bunch is the Radeon RX 470, that features a 2048 steam processor, 120 texture units, 32 ROPs, and a 4GB Video RAM. The GPU has a 5.7 billion transistors count, a memory bus width of 256-bit, and a typical board power of 120W. Its core clock is set at 926MHz while the boost clock is set at 1206MHz. The RX Radeon 470 is aimed to replace the RX 370 and RX 270 graphics cards.
As for the less powerful Radeon RX 460, it features an 896 steam processor, 56 texture units, 16 ROPs, and a 2GB or 4GB Video RAM. The RX 460 is equipped with a 1200MHz boost clock with a memory clock of 7Gbps. AMD has not offered details with respect to the GPU’s transistor count. The graphics card has a typical board power of less than 75W. This means that the RX 460 runs without an external PCIe. It can run on any system capable of supporting a full power PCI Express card.
Both Radeon RX 470 and RX 460 use the same GloFo 14nm manufacturing process. Radeon RX 460 budget card is scheduled to be launched four days after its older sibling Radeon RX 470. The target market for the less powerful RX 460 is the eSports market.
AMD will roll out both cards in a short while. The performant Radeon RX 470 will be launched on August 4th while the Radeon RX 460 will make its appearance four days after, on August 8th. Unfortunately, the multinational semiconductor company has not yet revealed the prices of the two graphics cards. It is believed AMD will disclose the cost of the Radeon RX 470 and RX 460 right at the launch. However, since the cards are targeted for the lower-end market, they should be affordable.
What’s your opinion on the new graphics cards from AMD? Would you get your hands on one of them to spice up your gaming capabilities?
