Verizon’s Redbox Instant app enters Windows Phone platform exclusively for Lumia devices and after 60 days, the app will be available on all Windows Phone 8 devices.
Launched on Android and iOS almost a year ago, Redbox Instant by Verizon entered the WP OS platform finally. The Windows Phone version of the app comes with few aesthetic changes as well as the W specific Live Tile support and rest of the things works similar to cross platform apps such as movie streaming, maps to nearby Redbox kiosks, rent/buy movies in digital formats and reserving new releases at local Redbox.
“As mobile phones transform into entertainment hubs for consumers, we want to ensure they have instant access to a great selection of movies,” said Shawn Strickland, CEO of Redbox Instant by Verizon.
If you download the app now, you will get the first month subscription free, which otherwise will cost you $8 per month (it also covers the rental fees of up to four DVDs) and for Blu-ray discs rentals- pay additional $1 per month.
So, all Lumia owners, just give it a try, at least for first month and if you are satisfied with the service then continue with their subscription packages. Sorry for other Windows Phone 8 owners, you have to wait until January-end.
