If we’re to believe the rumor mill, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is getting ready to release another entry-level smartphone in the form of a new 4-inch iPhone, after the recent launch of the phablet iPhone 6s.
And according to recent “revelations,” we have already been given a peek to what we are supposed to expect by way of a purported leaked photo. First shared via 9to5Mac, the photo in question claims to depict a comparison between the rumored 4-inch iPhone next to an iPhone 5, also featuring a 4-inch display.
While there’s little we can do about authenticating the photo, Gijs Raggers (the original poster) has a fairly encouraging track record as a leaker. He was the one to post pictures of prerelease versions of the original iPad Air and the iPad Air 2.
The leaked photo of upcoming 4-inch iPhone – whose name and actual existence is yet to be confirmed by Apple – shows that while the size is the same as the iPhone 5s’, everything else resembles the iPhone 6s.
It’s all there: rounded volume buttons, curved-glass edges, FaceTime camera in line with the earpiece, and power button relocated to the right side. The rumored device also appears to have Touch ID, a feature introduced with the iPhone 5s.
Discrediting previous rumors regarding the moniker of the purported 4-inch iPhone, 9to5 Mac cites the name iPhone 5se and not as iPhone 6c. So rumor has it that the Apple iPhone 5se will actually be an upgraded edition of the iPhone 5S, the one released in 2013.
Even though the allegedly leaked photo seems to be authentic, there’s no way to confirm is the smartphone next to the iPhone 5 is actually the iPhone 5se. A leaked video from last week featuring a small-sized iPhone also preached the imminent arrival of the new 4-inch iPhone.
The new iPhone 5se is expected to be equipped with an Apple A8 chipset. It will also feature the very same chipset that is available on the 2014 iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Main camera will be housing 8 megapixels, while the “selfie camera” will be fitted with 1.2 megapixels.
Live Photos will be included among the features of the main camera, which means the smartphone will shoot a video clip of 3 seconds before and after each snap. The rumored iPhone will also include panorama and autofocus for shooting videos.
At this point, we can only assume the iPhone 5se will be featuring a Touch ID sensor. Also important is that the purported smartphone include multiple color variants, such as gold, space gray, silver, and the lovable rose gold.
