Release date for Nintendo’s new console surfaces, codenamed Nintendo NX Hybrid. Given that the Wii U was a huge failure and lost a ton of money for the Japanese company, a new console was bound to be in development, we just didn’t expect to have a release date so soon.
The legendary gaming company has been struggling to keep up with the likes of Microsoft and Sony, according to a report by Screen Rant, as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are huge hits, with the latter dominating charts.
During holidays, those two gaming consoles have sold like crazy. Yet, the Nintendo Wii U has only sold almost 15 million units since its release three years ago.
Codenamed the Nintendo NX Hybrid, the Wall Street Journal reports that the company has already begun distributing development kits to various developers to test and troubleshoot the new console.
We have little to none information regarding console specs or even how it’s going to look. Nintendo’s President Tatsumi Kmishima has said that they are going to provide a brand new experience, during a public interview with Matt Peckham of Time.
Tatsumi Kmishima added that the company is not building a new version of the Wii or Wii U. Instead, it’s going to be different and unique. In order to please the consumer base, they are going to drive away from the norm and offer something new.
Yet, Tech Radar cited these new patents in a report and the new console proves to be a fusion between the GameCube pad and the Wii U.
Nomura Securities stated in an interview that the new Nintendo console may actually be a hybrid between a console and a handheld device. Releasing a successor to both the 3DS and Wii U will not be fruitful, and will have minimal impact, said Nomura Securities.
However, now, after seeing 3DS sales report not weakening even after six years of being on the market, Nomura Securities have changed their forecast.
Junko Yamamura, analyst for Nomura Securities, has stated that the new Nintendo gaming console will be available for purchase before this year ends, noting an October or November release.
We are keen to find out more about Nintendo’s new device, but we are sceptical that we’ll hear anything new before the E3 event, which will take place during June. However, we are thrilled to know that the concept of the console will be ready by May.
Sony and Microsoft might just receive a huge challenge to overcome next winter holiday. Will Nintendo’s console smash sales once it launches or will the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 continue to reign supreme? Tell us in the comments section below!
