Best and worst place to die revealed by Quality of Death Index

If you want to die, the United Kingdom might just be the best place for you to do so. According to the 2015 Quality of Death Index, the United Kingdom has the best end of life care facilities for its patients, compared to all the other nations of the world.best-place-to-die

According to the Index, the best place to die in Asia is Taiwan and that in North America is the United States. Coming to South American Countries, the top spot is held by Chile and Israel leads the race for Middle East and Africa.

The statistics are a part of the survey done by the Economist’s Intelligence Unit, wherein the living standards of individuals nearing death are taken into consideration. The study clearly indicates that the countries making up the major percentage of the top spots are countries from Europe and North America. This gives us a clear indication that there is a lot that is yet to be done in the field of Palliative care in parts of the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Africa and South America. There is an unseen barrier that in reality blocks high quality Palliative care from reaching to individuals living there.

India in spite of being such a large democracy is ranked way behind in the index, which came as quite a shock to the EIU. The report also states that ironically, most of the countries fail to cope up with the rising cost of the care required. The lack of proper facilities has lead to lots of deaths, where the individuals have suffered to great extents.

The survey also points out to the increasing population as one of the primary reasons for the lack of Palliative care. Some of the countries like Chile, Taiwan turned out to be surprises in the list.
