After finding Listeria Monocytogenes in a whole, uncut wheel of blue cheese of a particular brand by Food & Drug Administration, the Whole Foods Market has announced a recall for that particular brand of blue cheese, to prevent any sort of problems due to Listeria.
The most popular Premium retailer, Whole Foods has announced today that they have initiated the recall process for “Papiilion Organic Roquefort Cheese,” a brand of blue-cheese. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted test on the blue-cheese and found that the cheese might have a change to cultivate Listeria, a death causing bacteria.
Whole Foods has announced a nationwide recall for the blue-cheese and said:
“Blue cheese has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”
Children and adults have more immune system, and if they consumer Listeria, fatality rate comes within the range of 20% percentage. But, an aged person who has a less immune system and in their case, the fatality rate rises to 50%. Symptoms are headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea and high fever. Also, it will cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant ladies. It is strongly advised to admit in hospital, if anyone has the above symptoms after having the blue cheese.
Last month, another major retailer recalled another brand of cheese, due to the presence of Listeria, which is found on testing. Whole Foods were building up its image for past several years, but this incident might cause a degradation in their image. So far, no illness has been reported due to the illness and in the meantime, Listeria will take several months of time to show its symptoms. Scientists and researchers were in a dilemma, since it has longer incubation period.
Customers can get their full refund for the product by simply bringing their blue cheese and its receipt.
