Facebook Messenger overtakes YouTube in US app popularity


Once again, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has proved that it is the social media giant in this globe. This is a sign of success and improvement of the social media giant, and within a limited period of time, Facebook messenger application got its place in people’s heart.

For the first time in history, the application overtook the position of Google’s YouTube application, and reaches the second position behind Facebook application. The report has been made after a huge survey by comScore, and has been released on Thursday. The report says, most the iOS and Android operating system users uses the application for almost 59.5% and YouTube application for 59.3%. At just 0.2%, the Facebook messenger application has secured the second place in the United States.

In the year of 2012, a separate application for Facebook messaging service has been released by the Facebook Inc. and the same opposed the main Facebook application. Since, Facebook stopped sending messages from the main Facebook application and forces the users to use messenger, the application went on several criticisms and also people starts to think – whether they need to use a separate application for messaging.

The entire scenario has been changed, once comScore announces the result. The most hated application of the year turn into top most used applications of the country. This proves that Facebook has made such an improvement to make its products more usability in nature.

Apart from the app popularity, comScore has also revealed the smartphone market share in the United States. According to the press release:

191.4 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (77.1 percent mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in July. Apple ranked as the top OEM with 44.2 percent of U.S. smartphone subscribers (up 1.1 percentage points from April). Samsung ranked second with 27.3 percent market share, followed by LG with 8.7 percent (up 0.3 percentage points), Motorola with 4.9 percent and HTC with 3.5 percent.
