NBCUniversal’s agreement with Buzzfeed would take the value of the New York based company to about $1.5 billion, according to anonymous sources. VoxMedia’s valuation would also go up to $850 million. It is important to note that NBCUniversal is also a part-owner of Re/Code, which was purchased by Vox Media earlier this year.
Comcast acquired NBCUniversal four years ago and the company has grown leaps and bounds since then. It is in talks with Buzzfeed and Vox Media for possible investment in the near future. Both Buzzfeed and Vox Media exercise great reputation in the industry and they may soon be owned by NBCUniversal.
The CEO of NBCUniversal Steve Burke is known to have a passion for millennial. Moreover, the news has come out after an allegation from the Wall Street Journal that the company is trying to talk to online media companies to target millennial audiences.
The revenue of Buzzfeed was calculated to be more than $100 million in the year 2014. The aim of NBCU is to receive a crash course on digital content and distribution through the new investments it makes. It is highly likely that those companies may feel like distributing some of NBCU’s content too.
