Google starts selling Nexus 5 – Android 4.4 KitKat released

Google finally released the Nexus 5 smartphone to the market along with the release of major Android version 4.4 KitKat, which will be running on flagship Nexus 5 devices.

Google said that Android 4.4 KitKat is faster than previous versions with multitasking and full voice control. This build also integrated a caller ID feature, which will search for the numbers from business listings on Google Maps if the numbers isn’t available on your contacts.

Google has redesigned the Quickoffice to easily find compatible files as well as easier editing of spreadsheets as well as documents. Smartphones with Android KitKat can also print the documents via Google Cloud Print as well as HP ePrint system. The inbuilt email application also revamped to provide download feature to users.

Google said that this new version of OS can run smoothly on older devices with just 512MB of RAM after trimming memory requirements and closing the background services so that it can run on many affordable supported hardware. However, the latest mobile OS will be available for high-end hardware like Nexus 4, 7 and Nexus 10 tablets. Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play edition are the other phones to get the update soon.

Regarding the LG made Nexus 5, the high-ed smartphone from Google will be available on all major U.S. carriers except Verizon and unlocked version of Nexus 5 will be available in US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, South Korea and Japan. Some rumors pointed that Google might shift to Motorola as the Nexus hardware maker but it seems Google isn’t ready for the shift.

LG Nexus 5 for Google boasts a 5-inch display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution with highest ever 445ppi density and powered by 2.3GHz, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor as well as 2GB of RAM. It comes with an 8-megapixel improved rear camera (with Autofocus, LED Flash and geo-tagging) and an 1.3-megapixel front camera. New HDR+ mode of the camera app will take multiple photos quickly to combine them into a photo with all best features from all shots.

Nexus 5 has LTE connectivity with dual-aerial WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), Wireless charging and NFC. It weighs 130 grams along with the 2,300mAh battery and the dimensions are 69.17 x 137.84 x 8.59mm. Google says that the device comes with 17 hours talktime, 8.5 hours of talktime on WiFi, 7 hours of talktime on LTE and 300 hours of standby.
