If you have noticed the spam mails hitting your account got reduced, and you thought that the spam emails are on the wane, and then you’re not alone. A recent report from Symantec has been released this week, which shows that spam emails are very low for the past 12 years of its history.
The report entitled “Symantec’s Intelligence Report” for June 2015, mainly focus on the various electronic threats, a corporate company faces. Over a long time, the threats are measured, monitored and compared with their previous states too.
The report measures several numbers of security problems all around the companies, and the overall spam rate while compared to the past dropped to 49.7 percentages. This is the first time in the past decade, the rate has reduced below 50% and while compared to the previous record, there is a drop of 3%. When Symantec recorded the spam rate in September 2003, the spam rate was identified as 52%, as per 1 to 250 employees email traffic. The rates of phishing and spam email based malware were almost down, and 57.6 million new malware were appeared in the month of June.
This report shows us that email-based attacks are ending up, and the hackers starts to move into a new phase of attacking.
- One of the strangest modalities that happened was ransomware attacks, and almost 477,000 incidents were almost detected in the past few years. But, in the end of 2014, the ransomware attacks have been increased a lot.
- Also, Crypto-ransomware attacks reached its highest level in the month of December, last year.
- According to the report, Manufacturing is the largest sector with more number of attacks, and the second largest is the finance, insurance and real estate sectors.
By using its own security products, Symantec produces this sort of reports, and monitors almost threat activities in 157 countries via various combinations of its products.
