Acer is all set to release their second Windows based tablet Acer Iconia W4, which is an 8-inch tablet running the latest Windows 8.1 updated OS.
Iconia W4 will be Acer’s second attempt on a Windows 8 tablet as they have already launched the Iconia W3 in June but didn’t made any difference, but it didn’t stopped the company to try again with the updated tablet with latest OS, which comes with many missing features since the Windows 7.
Acer has replaced many mistakes from previous version of the tablet, first by display. The WXGA LCD display with not-so-good colors and viewing angle of Iconia W3 is replaced by trending IPS LCD display with 1280 x 800 resolution in 8-inch of the new W4 model. The company has used the Zero Air Gap Technology between the LCD and the panel to reduce reflection as well as improve the readability on the tablet.
Intel’s 4th generation Atom processor with 1.8GHz speed in Iconia W4 will help to work even faster than the lat model. The device boasts an impressive 5-megapixel camera in rear and a 2MP camera in front for video calls, where the previous model had both 2MP cameras in rear and front. It also is a thinner Windows 8.1 tablet, being 10.75mm thickness and weighs 415 grams. microHDMI port, microUSB port and microSD slot are retained and users can also opt to use keyboard with the tablet.
Regarding the pricing of Acer Iconia W4, the tablet comes with 2 variants – 32GB & 64GB, which is priced at $330 and $380 respectively – not much change in front of Amazon’s FireOS based Kindle Fire HDX tablets, which is currently shipping in US. After the many changes in the Windows 8.1 OS and the improved features in tablet, would you like to consider it as a best buy?
