Scientists recently have revealed the co-ordinates of the octopus arms and how they are crawling with the help of their arms in a detailed manner, with the help of high speed camera.
Hebrew University of Jerusalem Researchers filmed the video that details us how the octopuses are crawling with the help of their limitlessly flexible arms and also explains how the animal uses its arms to move from one place to another. The video reveals the simplicity of the moment and also it clearly shows us that which arms, they are using to push themselves for a place to another. The researchers have published their journals in the current Biology Findings and helps us to know how they uses their skeleton less arms to move or crawl.
Dr Guy Levy, one of the researchers from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem mentioned,
“People want to build soft robots for medical purposes and rescue operations,” “Such soft-bodied, octopus-inspired arms would not be limited by fixed joints, This could be useful to access narrow, difficult to reach spaces – perhaps getting help to people trapped at the scene of a collapsed building”,”So the octopus only has to decide which arm to use for the pushing – it doesn’t need to decide which direction this arm will push,”
In order to find the motion of the animal, Dr Levy and other colleague were recorded the motion of octopus as video and studied the video as frame by frame. The video provided a simple solution for the complicated problem and finally they found that, by shortening and lengthening the arms, the animal moves for a place. Dr Levy added that the animal can able to push all of its eight arms and they can able to move in any directions irrespective of the direction of their body. Next, scientists have planned to analyze the neural system to find out exactly how they are coordinating with the movements of its each arm.
The findings were published online on April 16 in the Cell Press journal Current Biology.
