Apple’s Electric Car Will Reportedly Hit The Road By 2020

A new sort of rumor has been leaked on the internet that Apple Inc is planning to build an electric car under the project “Titan”. A secret project has been experimenting by the Cupertino giant Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and is being reported to produce an electric vehicle to hit the road by 2020. In the meantime, Apple has already been facing numerous issues in its prototype phase itself.apple-icar-concept-image

All of us knew that the company has already shown its interest over automobile sector, and also started to show interest in manufacturing electric cars. Almost a year has been over, since Apple has introduced CarPlay with partnering with Ford, BMW, Mercedes and so on.

Apple Inc. was not properly ready with its electric car project, since it needs at least 200 employees from the automobile industries and also expertise in the field of battery manufacturing. Apple hasn’t left Tesla Motors’s employees too from recruiting for this secret project.

In the meanwhile, A123 Systems filed a lawsuit against the Apple for poaching its employee in 2014. The lawsuit says,

“It appears that Apple, with the assistance of defendant Ijaz, is systematically hiring away A123’s high tech PhD and engineering employees, thereby effectively shutting down various projects/programs at A123,”

Apple Inc has been experimenting the project in a secret lab for the project Titan, that is located a mile away from the main headquarters of the company. The lab is specially made to build a car model, that we should not see in the near future. The designs are made in such a way that the car should be a unique one for the year 2020.

Apple has a quite strange interest in selling its electric car, unlike its other products such as iPhones and iPads, the margin in selling the electric cars will not be that much huge excluding its manufacturing cost.

The latest information which adds sugar to the coffee is, the Lithium-ion battery-maker A123’s lawsuit over Apple’s alleged poaching business. A123 sues Apple, where it said that Apple is poaching the battery-maker’s employees. This implies that Apple is surely getting ready for the battery-powered electric car. Don’t underestimate the possibility of having a few driverless cars in its catalogue as well.

When people spotted suspicious cars and vans cruising the streets of Silicon Valley two weeks ago, it gave rise to the iCar rumors. When vans moved around suspiciously with big clunky looking camera setups on their roofs, it fuelled rumors about the Apple iCar. These initial rumors also mentioned reports of a LIDAR equipped SUV prowling through the San Francisco Bay area. Google already has a name for itself when it comes to its company cars roaming the streets to map for Google street view. So, at that time it fuelled rumors that Apple may be up to a somewhat similar trick, especially when the Cupertino giant had come out in the open regarding its intention to build an independent Apple Maps system for its phones.

Sources familiar with the project remained unclear if Apple would develop the car. The company has brought in several employees from Tesla and others, including Johann Jumgwirth who developed smartphone integration for Mercedes-Benz until September. The reports indicate the company’s interest in competing with Google, which is testing the self-driving cars and electric car makers like Tesla.
