We are here once again talking about another favorite messaging app used worldwide by millions of users. WeChat is a mobile text and voice messaging communication service developed by a Chinese company called, ‘Tencent’. It was first released in 2011. The app is available for use on all mobile phone OS as it is a cross-platform messaging service. WeChat is second only to WhatsApp in terms of popularity and usage, as it has the second highest number of active users, with the number currently at 438 million.
But before we start with our installation guide, we would like to briefly discuss the features of the Chinese chat application WeChat. It must be an interesting thing to know that ‘WeChat’ in the Chinese language literally translates to ‘Tiny Chat’ or ‘Micro Chat’.
Features of WeChat
1. A very interesting feature of WeChat is that it enables users to register the messaging app with their Facebook accounts or alternatively with a phone number. WeChat currently supports the phone numbers of more than 100 countries for registration.
2. WeChat provides popular messaging app features such as text messaging, hold-to-talk voice messaging, broadcast (one-to-many) messaging, sharing of photographs and videos, and location sharing. Moreover, it also allows you the ability to embellish photos with filters and captions before you share the photo with your friends. Also, it allows you to video chat in HD too.
3. WeChat has an exciting feature that enables you to exchange contacts with the smart phones in your vicinity. This is enabled by the messaging app through Bluetooth.
4. However, the best feature, which has been purposely kept for the last for discussion in this post, is that WeChat allows for contacting random people, if those random people have desired to be open to it. This feature is called the ‘Automatic Friend Finder Tool’ which can be activated by a very fun method of shaking your phone.
However, yet again this is an app which has been developed primarily for mobile phone based OS and therefore if one does not possess a smart phone, then one will not be able to use this exciting app. But no worries, because we are here with our installation guide about how to install WeChat on PC and use it from your computer. The following information contains a list of successive steps that will guide you towards successfully installing WeChat on your personal computer using a popular Android emulator called, ‘BlueStacks’. This guide can be used to download and install WeChat for PC and will be compatible for Windows 7 and Windows 8 (32/64) operating systems.
Because the Android emulator required for using WeChat on PC is slightly on the higher side of graphics requirement, you will have to ensure that you have the latest video graphics drivers installed on your PC. Also, make sure that your PC is connected to the internet.
The Android emulator mentioned above is called, ‘BlueStacks. This software essentially creates a virtual hardware that fools the apps to believe that they are being downloaded and used in a smart phone environment and not in PC environment. That’s why, if you want to download WeChat successfully on to your PC, you will have to first download and install, ‘BlueStacks’.
Go to www.bluestacks.com to access the setup files for BlueStacks. This software is available for free, unlike the other android emulator such as YouWave and hence you shall face no hassles in downloading and installing this software.
Once Bluestacks has been downloaded, you have to open the executable file and run the installation. To successfully complete the installation, you must follow the on-screen instructions which by themselves are pretty easy to follow. The software will be installed within minutes and can be made to run on both windows and Mac computers.
After BlueStacks has been downloaded, you have to now run the BlueStacks emulator before the next steps of the installation process can be achieved. Once you open the emulator, you will find that the emulator’s User Interface (UI) resembles that of an Android device.
Once the BlueStacks interface is open, locate and launch the Google Play Store app. Search for the WeChat application and wait for the results to show up.
After the ‘WeChat’ app installer window opens up, click on the install button. Clicking that button will automatically initiate and terminate after successful installation of the app. However, make sure that you are ready with your Google ID credentials because the Play Store will ask you to login using those details before installation can begin.
As already mentioned above, WeChat is socially integrated in that it does not lay stress on using the app only with your mobile phone number and therefore you have two options to start using WeChat. Firstly, WeChat will ask you to enter your phone number and only then you will be able to login. But because WeChat also provides you the option to connect through your Facebook account, you are also allowed to log in through your FB. Input your phone number to continue using WeChat. Once you are logged in, all your messages and contacts will get imported.
Hope you enjoyed downloading and installing WeChat on your PC and if you faced any problems, do let us know about it so that we may address the same in our next posts.
