Download/Install WhatsApp for Desktop PC without Bluestacks

Update: WhatsApp for PCs now available. Click here to learn more. Although there have been news reports in the last month that WhatsApp will soon be coming to your PCs, it is still not very clear whether WhatsApp lovers will be able to use it on their PCs anytime soon. Even though the news reports mentioned WhatsApp stating that they have been working on a web based client, such news is still not beyond speculation as all of these reports are swimming in the realm of rumors.

However, the rumors were fanned because of a recent interview given by Telegram founder Pavel Durov to the tech website, ‘TechCrunch’. In that interview Durov had stated that the Facebook owned messaging company tried to hire his web app developer. This gave rise to speculation that WhatsApp may be looking for web development expertise to create a web client for its massively popular messenger app.

However, if you wish to use WhatsApp on your PC and can’t wait for the company to develop a web client, then we are here for the rescue. The following information contains a list of successive steps that will guide you towards successfully installing WhatsApp on your personal computer. This guide can be used to download and install WhatsApp for PC and will be compatible for Windows XP/Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 (32/64) operating systems. In another post we had discussed how to install WhatsApp on your PC using Bluestacks as your Android emulator, but in this one we will discuss how you can install WhatsApp without using Bluestacks.

But before we delve into the installation process for WhatsApp, we would like to discuss a little about WhatsApp. It is a free messaging app that lets you message to your friends as many times without incurring any extra costs. All the app does is to utilize data from your internet network and such utilization is almost next to nothing because it uses text which takes the least data possible.

Additionally, you can also send photos, videos, multimedia incorporated messages, and voice notes at no extra charge at all. That is because there is no per usage fee involved. WhatsApp is a partially free app because it lets you use the app fully free for one whole year and then after that charges you a very minimal amount of only $0.99.

Now, let us begin our installation guide.

  1. Before we begin installation of WhatsApp on PC, you will be required to first install an Android emulator. In our other post, we already discussed how you can install WhatsApp using the ‘Bluestacks’ emulator. But Bluestacks is not the only android emulator available and there are others that are available too. In this post, we will learn about how WhatsApp may be installed using other android emulators.

  2. The android emulators that will be used for installation of WhatsApp in this guide are Andy and one other software that may be used for this purpose is ‘Wassapp’.

  3. As Andy is an Android emulator that will create a virtual hardware environment, you will have to first ensure that your PC is running on the latest video graphics drivers. So connect to the internet and ensure that your graphics drivers are updated to the latest versions. Then go http://www.andyroid.net/ and download and install it quickly on your PC.

  4. The download will only give you the setup file and to proceed, you will be required to execute the setup file downloaded. Double click the Andy setup.exe file to run the installation wizard. To successfully complete the installation, you must follow the on-screen instructions which by themselves are pretty easy to follow. The software will be installed within minutes and can be made to run on both windows and Mac computers.

  5. After Andy’s installation is complete, then you have to start the Andy emulator which will emulate the android device environment using which you can now access Google’s Play Store.

  6. Inside the Google’s Play Store, search for the WhatsApp installer window.

  7. After WhatsApp installer window opens up, you will now have to just start the installation of WhatsApp which will be an automatic process. However, make sure that you are ready with your Google ID credentials because the Play Store will ask you to login using those details before installation can begin.

  8. Once Andy confirms that it has been successfully installed on your PC, you will now have to sync data between the mobile device and your PC. To do this use the 1ClickSync feature which will automatically sync future data as well, so that you are able to use WhatsApp on both the PC and your mobile device.

  9. As WhatsApp runs only with your registered number with which you are using it on your phone, you will be required to enter your phone number and only then you will be able to login to start using WhatsApp.

  10. After the installation is complete, start using the world’s favorite messenger and get connected to your friends. However, each time that you may wish to start. WhatsApp, you will be required to first open up the Android emulator and then use the WhatsApp from the emulator’s interface.

If you come across any issues during installation, do not forget to talk about it in our comments section, so that we could then improve our guide even more.

Another method by which you can install and use WhatsApp on your PC is by using Wassapp which is essentially a PC application developed as a non-official web client for the WhatsApp Messenger. All that users need to do is provide their phone numbers, import their contacts and then start messaging using their PC’s keyboard which can be more convenient than a normal smart phone device, especially when it comes to longer messages.

For using WhatsApp using the Wassapp client, follow the instructions given below:-

  1. In case you are using Windows XP, then make sure that you have the latest version of Internet Explorer 8.0 installed on your Windows XP. Also make sure that you have the latest .NET Framework client installed, which is currently a 4.0 version. Users who have Windows 7 or 8 installed on their PCs need not bother about the above requirements as those components already come installed on those operating systems.

  2. Visit the URL – http://lowlevel-studios.com/wassapp/ to download the executable setup file for Wassapp onto your computer.

  3. Run the executable file and follow the simple on-screen instructions.

  4. Log into the Wassapp client with your WhatsApp ID, which will get you logged into WhatsApp’s servers. It will be as good as if you are using the WhatsApp app on an android mobile device.

Compared to other methods such as downloading of various android emulators, using WhatsApp through Wassapp is the most simplest of all. Also, Wassapp will not create problems for you which other emulators may, as you can use the same phone number with which you registered your account for WhatsApp on your phone. Whereas the other emulator softwares may create a little bit of trouble at times if you try to use the same number for WhatsApp on PC and on your mobile Android device.
